About us

Hi, we’re Apoorva & Vikesh.

A photo of the two of you

We’re backpackers from India who spent a year travelling across eleven countries with little more than what fit on our backs. Somewhere between the local buses and the family dinners we were invited to, we realised the best trips weren’t on anyone’s list. These days we both work full-time and travel whenever our leave allows.

How we travel

  • Slowly. We’d rather spend two weeks in one town than tick off five.
  • With local people. Homestays, markets, local buses and long conversations over food.
  • Light. Two backpacks, a loose plan, and room for detours.
  • On a budget, in rupees. We share what things actually cost us.

Why Mapping Minimalists?

Most travel content tells you where everyone else is going. We want to help you figure out how you like to travel, and give Indian travellers the honest, practical details other sites skip: visas on an Indian passport, budgets in rupees, vegetarian food abroad, and what it’s really like on the ground.

Our promise

  • Everything we write comes from our own trips.
  • All our photos are unedited, just as we saw it.
  • If a link earns us a small commission, we say so. See our disclosure.
